More4 is a "free-to-air" channel. This means you can watch it without paying a special subscription fee. When More4 first launched in 2005, it was meant to be free for everyone. However, on Sky satellite TV, it was initially encrypted. This meant viewers needed a special package to watch it.

Becoming Free-to-Air

In 2008, More4 finally became truly free-to-air on Sky. This meant viewers no longer needed a paid package to watch it. On the same day, 6 May 2008, More4 also joined Freesat. Freesat is a free satellite TV service created by the BBC and ITV. This made More4 available to even more homes across the UK without any extra cost.
