Morison Memorial church facts for kids
The Morison Memorial United Reformed Church is a historic church building located in Clydebank, Scotland. You can find it on Dumbarton Road, close to the Clydebank Town Hall. This beautiful church has been standing for over 100 years and has a fascinating history.
The first ideas for the church were made in 1893. Architects from Glasgow, Steel & Balfour, designed the building. They used a style called English Gothic, which often features pointed arches and tall windows. The very first stone of the church was placed on October 3, 1896, by John Wilson, who was a Member of Parliament (MP) for Govan at the time. The church is very strong; it even survived the Clydebank Blitz during World War II, which was a series of heavy bombings.
The church started as an Evangelical Union church. This was a group of churches in Scotland. Later, it joined another group called the Congregational Union of Scotland. In April 2000, the Congregational Union of Scotland joined with the United Reformed Church. This created a larger church group that now includes churches in three nations.
