A Look Back at Morris
Morris has an interesting past! It was first settled around 1840. Back then, it was known as Springdale. A group of German Catholics were the first people to make their homes here.
The name of the community was changed to Morris in 1856. Two years later, in 1858, a post office opened in Morris. This made it easier for people to send and receive mail.
The heart of the community has always been St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. This church was founded in 1856. It has been an important part of life in Morris for a very long time.
The church also built a grade school in 1861. Many children from Morris went to this school. It served the community for many years until it closed down in 1977.
