The Pardee-Morris House, also known as the John Morris House, is a really old house in New Haven, Connecticut. It's like a museum now, where you can learn about history! This house was probably built a long, long time ago, in the late 1600s. That makes it one of the oldest buildings still standing in New Haven. It's a great example of early American colonial architecture. The house became a special historic place on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. Today, the New Haven Museum and Historical Society takes care of it. You can visit it during certain times of the year for fun events, classes, and tours.

Discover the Pardee-Morris House
The Pardee-Morris House is in a part of New Haven called Morris Cove. This area is on the east side of the New Haven Harbor, right by the water. You can find the house at the corner of Lighthouse Road and Morris Avenue.
What Does the House Look Like?
The house is quite big, with two and a half stories. It's made of wood, with a type of siding called clapboard on the outside. What's really cool is that the ends of the house are made of stone, and they have big chimneys! Some of the stone was put together with very old mortar, which even has tiny shells mixed into it. The front of the house has seven windows, placed evenly around the main door. A small roof sticks out over the entrance, keeping visitors dry.
A Look Back in Time
The oldest parts of the Pardee-Morris House are thought to be from the late 1600s. This was likely when Thomas Morris, who was the first person from Europe to own land here, or one of his sons, lived in the area.
Something important happened to the house in 1779. During the American Revolutionary War, British soldiers attacked New Haven. The Pardee-Morris House was partly burned during this attack. But it was fixed up and continued to be a home!
The Morris family owned this house for a very long time, all the way until 1915. Then, a man named William Pardee bought it. He didn't live there for very long. When he passed away a few years later, he left the house to the historical society. He also gave them money to help take care of it. Thanks to him, we can still visit and learn from this amazing piece of history today!
