Morton Meadows is a special old neighborhood in Midtown, Omaha, Nebraska. It's known for its history and friendly feel. You can find it between Center and Leavenworth Streets. It stretches from 42nd Street to Saddle Creek.

Sometimes people call it Twin Ridge, after its main street. It's also close to other interesting historic areas. These include Dundee and the Gold Coast.

What Makes Morton Meadows Special?

This neighborhood is home to the University of Nebraska Medical Center. This is a big hospital and research center. Morton Meadows also has many historic churches. One example is Bethel Lutheran. It was founded in 1916 and has beautiful stained glass. The church has a special Georgian Colonial design.

Becoming a Historic District

Morton Meadows was started in 1924. The goal was to create a beautiful, safe, and family-friendly place. The City of Omaha is working to make Morton Meadows an official historic district. This means it would be listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Being on this list helps protect its unique history.

In 2004, a study looked at 295 properties in the area. It found that 232 of them were important to the neighborhood's history. A large part of Morton Meadows is eligible for this special historic status. This area is generally between Woolworth Avenue, South 48th Street, Center Street, and South 42nd Street.

Second, Morton Meadows is a great example of the "garden city" idea. This is a way of planning communities. It focuses on green spaces and curving streets. Morton Avenue has gentle curves. Twin Ridge Boulevard is wide and park-like. These features make the neighborhood feel open and green.

Morton Meadows Neighborhood Association

The people living in Morton Meadows have a neighborhood association. This group helps keep the community great. They have different committees. These groups work on things like making the area beautiful. They also plan events and help with community outreach.
