Moser-Roth is a well-known brand of German chocolate. It is made by a company called Storck especially for the supermarket chain Aldi. Moser-Roth is known as Aldi's special, high-quality chocolate brand.

The Sweet History of Moser-Roth

The Moser-Roth brand has a long and interesting history. It has been owned by several different companies over the years.

How the Company Began

The story of Moser-Roth started with a company called Roth. This company was founded in 1841 in Stuttgart, Germany. It was started by a pastry chef named Wilhelm Roth Jr.

In 1876, Wilhelm Roth Jr. retired. Two people, Wilhelm Wagner and Kommerzienrat Sproesser, took over the small factory. The company grew, and in 1881, they moved to a bigger building.

Joining Forces: Moser and Roth

In 1896, the Roth company joined with another chocolate maker from Stuttgart. This was E. O. Moser & Cie, which had been started in 1846 by Eduard Otto Moser.

The new combined company officially registered the brand name Moser-Roth in 1902. It became the biggest chocolate factory in Stuttgart during the 20th century. Around 1910, about 550 people worked there!

Chocolate Makers in Stuttgart

Stuttgart was home to several chocolate companies back then. Some of these included Eszet, Haller, Waldbaur, Schoko-Buck, and Friedel. Another famous one was Alfred Ritter GmbH & Co. KG, which still makes chocolate today. Eszet chocolate is now made by the Sarotti company.

Challenges and Changes

In early 1942, the Moser-Roth company faced difficulties and was shut down. Later, in September 1944, the entire factory was destroyed during an air raid.

After the war, in 1947, a man named Karl Haller bought the Moser-Roth brand name. He started making chocolate again in 1948 in a part of Stuttgart called Obertürkheim.

New Owners and Modern Production

After Karl Haller passed away, his company, Haller, was bought by Melitta. Chocolate production continued for a while, but eventually stopped in the 1970s.

The Moser-Roth brand name then changed hands several times. Finally, it was sold to Storck. Since June 2007, Storck has been making Moser-Roth chocolate for Aldi. This production happens at Moser-Roth GmbH, located in Berlin.

Moser-Roth is known as Aldi's special, high-quality chocolate. It even received an award from the German Agricultural Society in 2007, showing its great quality.
