Moses Paukan was a member of the Yupik people. The Yupik are a group of Native Alaskans who have lived in Alaska for thousands of years.

He later made his home in Saint Mary's, Alaska. There, he was a successful businessman and also worked as a mechanic, fixing machines and vehicles.

Helping His Community

Moses Paukan believed in helping his community. He served on the city council in Saint Mary's. A city council is a group of people who make decisions about how a city is run, like managing services and local laws. He also became the mayor of Saint Mary's, which means he was the main leader of the city government.
