Moshe Brawer was an important Israeli geographer. He was born on November 3, 1919, and lived a long life, passing away on December 28, 2020. In 2002, he received the prestigious Israel Prize for his work in geography. Brawer was well-known for writing The Atlas of the World, a popular textbook in Israel that was published 67 times! He also created 20 other atlases in different languages.

About His Life

Moshe Brawer was born in Vienna, Austria. His family moved to Jerusalem in 1920 when he was just one year old. His grandfather, Rabbi Meir Meirson, was a leader in the Jewish community in Vienna. Moshe's father, Abraham Jacob Brawer, was also a geographer and a historian, and his mother, Sarah, taught French.

Moshe Brawer studied mathematics at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Later, he earned a special degree called a PhD in geography from the University of London. His main research for this degree was about the borders of a place called Palestine.

Awards and Special Recognition

In 2002, Moshe Brawer was given the Israel Prize. This is one of the highest honors in Israel. He received it because of his amazing work and contributions to understanding the Geography of Israel.
