The Moswansicut River is a small river in the U.S. state of Rhode Island. It flows for about 6.2 miles (10 kilometers). This distance includes the part of the river that is now inside the large Scituate Reservoir. There are two dams along the river's path.

Where Does the Moswansicut River Start and Flow?

The Moswansicut River begins at the Kimball Reservoir. This reservoir is located near Sickkibunkiaut Hill in Johnston. Water from the Kimball Reservoir still flows naturally into the river. There is no dam blocking its start.

From the Kimball Reservoir, the river flows into Moswansicut Pond. After that, it continues its journey into the Scituate Reservoir. The Scituate Reservoir is a very important source of drinking water for many people in Rhode Island.

How the River Used to Flow

Before the Scituate Reservoir was built, the Moswansicut River used to join another river. It met the Ponaganset River. Together, they formed the North Branch Pawtuxet River. This meeting point is now covered by the waters of the Scituate Reservoir.
