Mordechai (Moti) Kirschenbaum (Hebrew: מרדכי "מוטי" קירשנבאום) was a famous Israeli TV person and filmmaker. He was born on September 24, 1939, and passed away on September 25, 2015. He was known for his important work on Israeli television, especially for news and documentary programs.

Moti Kirschenbaum's Life

Early Life and Education

Moti Kirschenbaum was born in Kfar Saba, Israel, in 1939. He went to Pardes Hanna Agricultural High School. After school, he served in the IDF in a special paratrooper unit called Nahal.

From 1962 to 1968, Moti studied film and television. He went to the UCLA in the United States. This is where he learned many skills for his future career.

Starting a TV Career

Moti Kirschenbaum started working at Israeli television right when it began in May 1968. He was a very important part of the team. For the first three years, he was the editor of "Mabat," which was the main news program.

He also directed many documentaries, which are films that show real events and people. Moti produced and edited several other TV shows, like "Lo HaKol Over" and "Nikui Rosh." He even directed funny plays and sketches for a famous comedy group called HaGashash HaHiver. He wrote and directed about 120 reports for a TV show called "Yoman" ("Diary"). From 1976 to 1979, he was in charge of all the programs on Channel One.

Later Career and Achievements

In the late 1980s, Moti left his full-time job at the Israel Broadcasting Authority (IBA). He started his own company called Anat. This company made videos, mostly for businesses like ISCAR Metalworking. Even with his own company, he kept making reports for the "Yoman" TV show. He also wrote a weekly column for a newspaper called Yediot Aharonot.

In 1993, Moti Kirschenbaum became the CEO of the IBA. This was a very important job, where he was in charge of the entire broadcasting authority. He held this position until he retired in 1998.

In 2003, Moti started co-hosting a popular current affairs show called "London & Kirschenbaum" with Yaron London. This show was on Channel Ten. They were a very popular duo and continued to host the show for many years.

Moti Kirschenbaum passed away on September 25, 2015. This was just one day after his 76th birthday. He had four children and lived in Mikhmoret until his death.

Awards and Recognition

Moti Kirschenbaum received several important awards for his work in television and film:

  • In 1976, he won the Israel Prize. This is one of the highest honors in Israel. He received it for his amazing work in radio, television, and cinema.
  • In 2009, the Israeli Reporters Society gave him a Lifetime Achievement Award. This award honored his long and successful career in journalism.
  • In 2012, he received another Lifetime Achievement Award. This time it was from the Israeli Academy for Television and Cinema.
