Motley, Virginia facts for kids
Motley is a small community in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, United States. It's called a "census-designated place" (CDP), which means it's an area identified by the government for counting people, even though it's not officially a city or town.
In 2010, about 1,015 people lived in Motley. By 2020, the population was 825.
A Bit of History
Motley got its name from an important family who lived in Virginia a long time ago, during the colonial period. This family was called the Motleys.
Two members of this family, Joseph Motley and his son David James Motley, were involved in the American Revolution. This was a big war where the American colonies fought for their independence from Great Britain.
