History of Mount Auburn
Mount Auburn was officially started on July 11, 1839. For a while, people thought it might become the new state capital of Illinois. This was when the capital moved from Vandalia to Springfield.
The Annual Mount Auburn Picnic
Mount Auburn hosts a fun event every year called the Mount Auburn Picnic. It first started in 1887 in a nearby place called Morganville. Thirteen men, including Hi Montgomery and T. A. Montgomery, helped start it.
In 1919, the picnic moved to Mount Auburn. Today, this yearly event is held in the Mount Auburn city park. It is a great way for the community to come together.
