How Was Mount Hart Discovered and Named?

Mount Hart was carefully mapped by American scientists. They used surveys and photos taken from U.S. Navy planes between 1960 and 1964. This work helped create detailed maps of the area.

The mountain was named by a special group called the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names. They chose to name it after Lieutenant Vemon D. Hart. Lieutenant Hart was an important officer in the U.S. Navy. He was in charge of the winter team for Squadron VX-6 at McMurdo Station in 1968. McMurdo Station is a research base in Antarctica.
