Mount Hope, Missouri facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Mount Hope (sometimes also called Mounthope) is a small place in southeastern Franklin County, Missouri, in the United States. It's known as an unincorporated community, which means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government. Instead, it's part of the larger county.

You can find Mount Hope along Missouri Route 47. It's about six miles southeast of a town called Saint Clair. Another community, Lonedell, is about 2.5 miles to the east-northeast.

A Look Back: Mount Hope's History

Mount Hope has a short but interesting history. A post office was opened here in 1903, which was a big deal for the people living in the area because it made sending and receiving mail much easier. This post office was named Mounthope and stayed open for about six years, closing in 1909.

The community itself got its name from a mine nearby that was also called Mount Hope. This shows how important mining might have been to the area in the past.
