Mount Hulda, Missouri facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Mount Hulda is a small, unincorporated community located in Benton County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. An "unincorporated community" means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's governed by the county.

History of Mount Hulda

The area now known as Mount Hulda had an earlier name, simply "Hulda." A post office was first opened there in 1904. A post office is a place where people can send and receive mail, and it was a very important part of a community's daily life, especially in the past.

In 1916, the name of the post office, and likely the community itself, was changed from Hulda to Mount Hulda. However, the post office did not stay open for very long after that. It closed its doors in 1924.

It's a bit of a mystery why the name "Mount Hulda" was chosen. The exact reason or person it was named after is not clearly known today.
