About Mount McGee

Mount McGee is found in a very cold place called Victoria Land. This region is part of the huge continent of Antarctica. More specifically, it is located on the Borchgrevink Coast. The mountain is an important part of the Random Hills. It sits on a ridge, which is like a long, narrow hilltop. Next to it is the Clausnitzer Glacier, which is a large, slow-moving river of ice.

Discovery and Naming

Scientists first mapped Mount McGee between 1955 and 1963. This mapping was done by the United States Geological Survey. They used information from ground surveys and air photos taken by the United States Navy. The mountain was later named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names. It was named after Lawrence E. McGee. He was a geologist who worked at McMurdo Station during the summer season of 1965–66.
