Mount Shute is a tall mountain located in a very cold place called Antarctica. It stands about 2,070 metres (6,790 ft) high! This mountain is part of the Mirabito Range, a group of mountains found on the Pennell Coast in Victoria Land. It is located about 14 miles (22 km) southeast of another peak called Austin Peak.

How Mount Shute Got Its Name

Mount Shute was mapped by the United States Geological Survey (USGS). This mapping happened between 1960 and 1963. They used surveys and air photos taken by the United States Navy.

The mountain was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN). They named it after Larry R. Shute. He was a meteorologist, a scientist who studies weather. Larry Shute worked for the United States Antarctic Research Program (USARP). He was stationed at Hallett Station during 1963–64.
