The Mountain Brook Estates Building is a special commercial building in Mountain Brook, Alabama. It was built in 1928. This building was designed to be the main shopping and business area for the new community. It looks like an old English town. This style is called Tudor Revival. The building has a steel frame covered with wood and plaster, called half-timbering. It makes you feel like you're in a storybook village! The Mountain Brook Estates area is famous. It's one of the best examples of a "romanticized suburb" in the United States. Other famous ones are Grosse Pointe, Michigan and Country Club Plaza in Kansas City, Missouri.

What the Building Looks Like

The Mountain Brook Estates Building has one or two stories. It is built with a strong steel frame. This makes it very sturdy. On the ground floor, there are five spaces for shops. Upstairs, there are offices. The building is located right in the center of the town. It has smaller sections that stretch out onto the side streets.

The building also has a full basement underneath. The bottom part of the building is mostly made of brick. The upper part uses a style called half-timbering. This means it has wooden beams with plaster or stucco in between. The roof is covered with tile shingles. The whole design makes the building look like old English town buildings. It's very picturesque!

A Historic Landmark

The Mountain Brook Estates Building is very important. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on April 8, 2003. This list includes places that are important to American history. Being on this list helps protect the building. It also recognizes its special design and history.
