Finding Mountain Dale on the Map
Mountain Dale is easy to find if you're traveling on Missouri Route C. It's about 2.5 miles north of a town called Seymour. You'll also find it just south of where the James River begins.
If you look around Mountain Dale, you'll see a cemetery about a quarter-mile to the west. To the east, about three-quarters of a mile away along Missouri Route V, you'll find the Owen Field airstrip and another small community called Waldo.
How Mountain Dale Got Its Name
The community of Mountain Dale got its unique name from a school that was built there a long time ago, around 1865. This school was special because it was located near both a mountain and a dale. A "dale" is a gentle valley. So, combining "mountain" and "dale" gave the community its name, Mountain Dale!
