Mounts, Indiana facts for kids
Mounts is a small, quiet place in Gibson County, Indiana, in the United States. It's known as an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town does. Instead, it's part of the larger county.
History of Mounts
Mounts was started around the year 1880. Back then, it was a "whistle stop" on the railroad. Imagine a train traveling through; if someone needed to get on or off, the train would stop only if a signal was given, like a whistle.
A post office was opened in Mounts in 1886. This meant people living there could send and receive letters and packages right in their own community. However, the post office eventually closed down in 1919.
