Mourad Medelci (born April 30, 1943 – died January 28, 2019) was an important politician from Algeria. He worked for the Algerian government for many years. From 2007 to 2013, he was the Minister of Foreign Affairs. This means he was in charge of Algeria's relationships with other countries. After that, he became the President of the Constitutional Council in 2013, a role he held until he passed away in 2019.

Early Life and Education
Mourad Medelci was born in a city called Tlemcen in Algeria on April 30, 1943. He went to the University of Algiers where he studied economics. He earned his first degree in 1966 and a master's degree in 1968.
After finishing his studies, Medelci worked in private businesses from 1970 to 1980. In 1980, he started working for the government. His first big role was as the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Trade. He was married and had five children.
Political Career Highlights
Mourad Medelci held many important jobs in the Algerian government. He was the Minister of Trade from 1988 to 1989. Later, he served as the Deputy Minister for the Budget from 1990 to 1991.
He became Minister of Trade again from 1999 to 2001. After that, he was the Minister of Finance from 2001 to 2002. The Minister of Finance manages the country's money.
From 2002 to 2005, he worked as an adviser to the President, Abdelaziz Bouteflika. In May 2005, he became the Minister of Finance once more. He stayed in this role until June 4, 2007.
Serving as Foreign Minister
On June 4, 2007, Mourad Medelci took on a very important job. He became the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs. This means he was the main person in charge of how Algeria interacted with other countries around the world. He worked to build good relationships and solve international issues.
He served as Foreign Minister for more than six years. On September 11, 2013, he was replaced by Ramtane Lamamra.
Leading the Constitutional Council
After his time as Foreign Minister, President Bouteflika gave Medelci a new role. On September 15, 2013, he was appointed President of the Constitutional Council. This council makes sure that laws follow the country's constitution. He took over this role from Tayeb Belaiz.
Death
In January 2019, Mourad Medelci became very unwell. He was in a hospital in Paris for a while. He was then brought back to Algiers in the last week of January.
By January 27, he was too sick to do his job as president of the Constitutional Council. The council was getting ready to oversee the 2019 Algerian presidential election. Mourad Medelci passed away around 1:30 AM on January 28, 2019, in Algiers. He was buried on the same day in the Ben Aknoun cemetery. The vice-president of the Constitutional Council then took charge to discuss the situation.
