Moyer Lectures facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The Moyer Lectures were a series of special talks given every year in London. These talks happened from 1719 to 1774. Their main goal was to explain and support the Christian idea of the Trinity. This idea teaches that God is one, but exists as three "persons": the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ), and the Holy Spirit.

The very first person to give a Moyer Lecture was Daniel Waterland. He also helped choose many of the speakers in the early years. The money for these talks came from Rebecca Moyer. She was the wife of a merchant named Sir Samuel Moyer. Rebecca Moyer left money for the lectures in her will in 1723.

The last person to give a Moyer Lecture was Thomas Morell. After his talk, Rebecca Moyer's family decided to stop the series. They had the right to do this.
