The Story of Mrs Mac's Pies

Starting Small in the 1950s

The story of Mrs Mac's began in the 1950s. A man named Ken Macgregor started a small business. He made cakes, yeast buns, and pies in Melbourne, Australia.

In 1954, Ken and his family moved to Perth. There, he started his business again. This time, he called it "Bakewell Pies."

Growing and Changing Names

The business grew and moved to a new location in Morley in 1968. Ken's son, Iain Macgregor, took over the company.

By the late 1980s, the company was much bigger. They sold their products in more places. They also started using new technology and making new kinds of pies. Around this time, the company changed its name to Mrs Mac's.

New Leaders and Owners

In February 2015, Paul Slaughter became the CEO (Chief Executive Officer) of Mrs Mac's. He was in charge of running the company.

Later, in February 2021, Jonathan Moss took over as the new CEO. He leads the company today. In November 2022, another company called Aus Pie Co bought Mrs Mac's.

What Mrs Mac's Makes

Different Kinds of Pies

Mrs Mac's is famous for its meat pies. In 2016, they started making gluten-free pies. This means people who can't eat gluten can also enjoy their products.

Healthy Choices and Quality Checks

Some of Mrs Mac's pies are part of their "Good Eating" range. These pies have special approvals. They have the Heart Foundation Tick of Approval. This means they are a healthier choice for your heart. They also have the Healthy Kids Amber Rating and FOCiS Approval. These ratings help families choose healthy foods for children.

Mrs Mac's also has something called BRC accreditation. This is a global standard for food safety. It means they follow strict rules to make sure their pies are safe and good quality. Experts check their factories regularly to make sure they keep these high standards.

How Mrs Mac's Reaches Customers

Advertising Campaigns

Over the years, Mrs Mac's has used different ways to tell people about their pies. In 2007, they launched a "slow food" campaign. This campaign encouraged people to enjoy their pies in a relaxed way, often with family.

In 2010, Mrs Mac's changed how their products looked. They got new packaging and new advertisements. Their new slogan was: "If it's not a Mrs Mac's, take it back!" This was a fun way to show how proud they were of their pies.

Connecting with People

In 2014, Mrs Mac's updated their brand again. They made online videos to show how they use 100% Australian beef. They also showed how they check each pie by hand for quality. The videos explained that their pastry is made the old-fashioned way.

They also had a "Roadtrip" campaign. They teamed up with the radio station Nova to travel around and meet people. This helped them connect directly with their customers.
