Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Amir Abdollah Muhammad Mu'izzi (born around 1048, died 1125) was a famous poet from ancient Persia (modern-day Iran). He lived during the 11th century and 12th century. Mu'izzi was a special poet who worked for Sultan Sanjar, a powerful ruler. He was known as the "poet laureate," which means he was the official poet of the royal court. Mu'izzi came from a village called Nisa. He is considered one of the greatest masters of a type of Persian poetry called "panegyric qasideh," which often praised important people.

Life of a Royal Poet

Mu'izzi lived and worked in the royal courts of two important rulers. These were Malik Shah I and Sultan Sanjar. Being a court poet meant he wrote poems for the rulers and their families.

Mu'izzi wrote many poems. His collection of poems, called a divan, still exists today. It contains about 18,000 distichs. A distich is a pair of lines in a poem that usually rhyme and form a complete thought.

Another famous poet named Anvari once suggested that Mu'izzi might have copied some verses from other poets. However, there is no clear proof of this. Interestingly, Anvari himself is known to have used some of Mu'izzi's verses in his own work.

The End of His Life

Mu'izzi died in the year 1125. It is said that he was accidentally shot by an arrow. This happened by mistake, and the arrow was shot by Sultan Sanjar.
