Larry "Mud" Morganfield, born on September 27, 1954, is an American blues singer. He is the oldest son of the famous blues musician Muddy Waters.
Early Life and Inspiration
Mud Morganfield was born in Chicago to McKinley Morganfield, also known as Muddy Waters, and Mildred Williams. He grew up mostly with his mother and seven uncles. His father, Muddy Waters, visited sometimes, but Mud didn't get to know him very well.
Mud Morganfield grew up in Chicago, where life was sometimes tough. He remembers seeing many difficult things around him. These experiences helped shape him into the person he is today.
Even though he was surrounded by music, Mud Morganfield didn't plan to become a professional musician at first. He worked as a truck driver for many years. After his father, Muddy Waters, passed away in 1983, Mud started having a recurring dream. In this dream, he saw his father performing on stage. This dream helped inspire him to begin playing the blues professionally.
A Career in Blues Music
Mud Morganfield's voice sounds very much like his father's. He says this similarity can be both a good thing and a challenge. You can hear how much his voice resembles his father's on his album For Pops: A Tribute To Muddy Waters. On this album, he sings several songs originally performed by Muddy Waters.
Mud Morganfield started his music career in blues clubs in Chicago. He performed a mix of his father's classic songs and his own new music. He enjoys singing his father's songs to show the world that Muddy Waters' legacy lives on through him.
He has said that he is proud to sing his father's songs. He wants to keep Muddy Waters' music alive for people around the world. He makes it clear that he is Mud Morganfield, not trying to be Muddy Waters. However, he feels his father is with him whenever he performs on stage.
In May 2015, his album, For Pops: A Tribute To Muddy Waters, won an important award. It received a Blues Music Award in the 'Traditional Blues Album' category.
