About Mugur Sundar
Mugur Sundar was born in a village called Muguru in the Mysore district of Karnataka, India. He has three sons: Prabhu Deva, Raju Sundaram, and Nagendra Prasad. All three of his sons are also very talented dance masters. They have worked in Kollywood films, which is the Tamil film industry. Prabhu Deva is also a successful film director.
His Career in Film
Starting Out
Mugur Sundar began his career working at Chandamama Press in Chennai. He earned 40 rupees a month. He used some of his earnings to learn dancing. In 1962, he got his first chance to be a group dancer in a movie called Konjum Salangai. He then worked as an assistant to a dance master named Thangappan for four years.
Becoming a Choreographer
Sundar joined the film industry in the late 1970s. He became very active in the early 1980s. For over four decades, he worked in Tamil cinema. He was a very busy choreographer in the 1980s. He worked with almost all the top actors of that time. Some of his early works include Aarada Gaaya (1980), Preethisi Nodu, Prachanda Putanigalu, Anupama, Nee Nanna Gellalare, and Keralida Simha. He continued to be active in the film industry until the mid-2000s. He choreographed dances for about 1000 movies during his career.
Directing and Acting
In 2001, Mugur Sundar directed his first Kannada film, Manasella Neene. This movie was a remake of a Telugu film called Manasantha Nuvve. His son, Nagendra Prasad, played the main role in this film. Later, in 2010, Sundar also acted in a Tamil film. He played the main character in a movie called Pa. Ra. Palanisamy.
Television Appearances
Mugur Sundar has also been a judge on popular dance shows on television. He was a judge on "AATA 4," a dance show on Zee Telugu. He also judged "Jodi No.1" and "Jodi No.1 Season Two" on Vijay TV. These shows featured television artists as participants. He judged alongside famous personalities like Silambarasan and Sangeetha.
