Muhammad Rashid, also known as Rashid Senior, was a talented field hockey player from Pakistan. He was born on April 14, 1941, and passed away on January 26, 2009. He is remembered for his important role in helping Pakistan win silver medals in major international sports events.
A Star Hockey Player
Muhammad Rashid was a key player for the Pakistan field hockey team. He showed his skills on the world stage at the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. His team worked hard and earned a silver medal there.
He also played in the 1966 Asian Games held in Bangkok, Thailand. Again, his team performed very well and won another silver medal for Pakistan.
Why He Was Called 'Senior'
You might wonder why Muhammad Rashid was known as 'Rashid Senior'. This happened because another hockey player named Abdul Rashid (field hockey, born 1947) joined the Pakistan team in 1968. To tell the two players apart, people started calling Muhammad Rashid 'Rashid Senior' and the newer player 'Rashid Junior'. Both of them even played together in several international matches between 1968 and 1969.
His Later Life
Muhammad Rashid passed away on January 26, 2009, in his hometown of Rawalpindi, Pakistan. He was laid to rest in the Harley Street graveyard in the city.
