Mulga Queen is an Aboriginal community in Western Australia. It is located about 150 kilometers (93 miles) north-west of Laverton. This area is part of the Goldfields-Esperance region and is within the Shire of Laverton.
History of Mulga Queen
The main buildings of Mulga Queen were built in the mid-1980s. The community started because gold was found in the area in the late 1800s. Many gold prospectors came to the region. This led to more contact between Aboriginal people and Europeans. Over time, the traditional way of life for the Aboriginal people in the area changed. Later, the government set up a food depot there. Mulga Queen then became a semi-permanent camping ground for Aboriginal people.
How Mulga Queen is Governed
The community of Mulga Queen is managed by its own organization. This organization is called the Nurra Kurramunoo Aboriginal Corporation. It was officially set up on September 9, 1987. This means the community has a group that helps make decisions and manage its affairs.
Planning the Town's Future
Mulga Queen has a special plan for its development. It's called Mulga Queen Layout Plan No.1. This plan helps organize how the town is built and grows. It follows rules set by the State Planning Policy 3.2 Aboriginal Settlements. The community approved this plan on September 8, 2001. The Western Australian Planning Commission also approved it on June 18, 2002.
