Muludja's Story
Early Beginnings
The Muludja community started a long time ago. It was first part of a large cattle property known as Fossil Downs Station. In the early 1980s, the community moved to where it is today. This move helped the people to build their own homes and community spaces.
A Big Fire in 2011
In 2011, a very large fire happened near Muludja. This fire spread quickly and burned thousands of hectares of land. It affected a nearby property called Gogo Station. This event was a difficult time for the community and the environment.
Land Rights and Native Title
Understanding Native Title
Native title is a special legal idea in Australia. It recognizes that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have traditional rights and interests in land and waters. These rights come from their own laws and customs, which have been passed down for thousands of years.
Muludja's Connection to Land
The Muludja community is located within the traditional lands of the Gooniyandi people. This area is part of a registered Gooniyandi native title claim. This means the Gooniyandi people have important traditional connections and rights to this land. It helps protect their culture and heritage.
How Muludja is Managed
Community Governance
The Muludja community is managed by its own organization. This organization is called the Jarlmadangah Burru Aboriginal Corporation. It was officially set up on December 3, 1987. This corporation helps the community make decisions and manage its affairs. It ensures the community has a strong voice in its future.
Planning for the Future
The community has a special plan for its development. It is called Muludja Layout Plan No.1. This plan helps guide how the community grows and changes. It was created with the community's input. The plan was approved by the community in 2002. It was also endorsed by the Western Australian Planning Commission. This helps make sure Muludja develops in a way that benefits everyone.
