Munditia manawatawhia is a very tiny sea snail. It is a type of mollusc that lives in the ocean. This small creature belongs to a group of snails called gastropods. It is part of the family Liotiidae.
About This Tiny Snail
This snail has a very small, smooth shell. It is only about 0.8 millimeters (mm) tall. The shell is 1.5 mm wide. That's smaller than a grain of sand!
Shell Features
The shell is white and shaped like a flat disc. It has a wide opening in the center called an umbilicus. The shell has about 2 and a half whorls. These are the spiral turns that make up the snail's shell. The opening of the shell, called the aperture, is round.
Where It Lives
This ocean snail lives only in New Zealand. It is found around the Three Kings Islands. This means it is endemic to that area. You won't find it anywhere else in the world!
