A famous builder named Lavius Fillmore designed it. The house is a great example of two old building styles mixed together: Georgian and Federal. What Makes the Munro-Hawkins House Special?

The Munro-Hawkins House is found in southern Shaftsbury. It sits on the east side of Vermont 7A. This house is made of wood and has two stories. It has a roof that slopes down on two sides. There are two brick chimneys inside the house.

How Does the House Look?

The front of the house has five sections. It has special columns called Ionic pilasters on its corners. These columns also stand next to the main front door. They hold up a fancy top part of the building. The main entrance has thin Ionic columns too. Above the door, there is a beautiful fan-shaped window. This window is part of a small, triangular roof design.

Unique Windows and Details

Above the main door, you can see a special window called a Palladian window. This window has three parts. The middle part is taller than the sides. Small columns separate the windows. A small, triangular roof design is above this window too. There is even a tiny gable (a pointed roof section) on the main roof. The sides of the house also have pointed roof sections. These sections have half-round windows in their centers.

Inside the House

When you go inside, the house has a central hallway. Many of its original features are still there. This includes beautiful marble around the fireplaces. The old wooden details are also still in place.
