The Manresa Regional Museum has a wide variety of things to explore. It's not just about one type of art or history.

Ancient and Medieval Treasures

You can discover ancient objects from the Neolithic Period, which was a very long time ago. There are also items from the time of Romanisation, when the Romans influenced this area. The museum also displays beautiful Medieval ceramics from the 14th century. These pots and plates are often painted in green and purple colors.

Art from Different Eras

The museum features colorful carvings from the Baroque period. These detailed artworks were made in the 17th and 18th centuries. You can also see various religious objects, some dating back to the 10th century and others from the 16th century.

Modern and Contemporary Art

There is a special area dedicated to modern and contemporary art. Here, you'll find amazing dioramas and paintings by Josep Mestres Cabanes. He was a famous set designer for the Gran Teatre del Liceu, a big opera house. The museum also shows paintings and engravings by Alfred Figueras.

The Museum Building: A Look Inside

The museum is located in a historic building. It used to be the elementary school of Sant Ignasi, named after Saint Ignatius.

Building Design and History

This building is large and strong, shaped like a square. In the middle, it has a spacious Neoclassical-style cloister. A cloister is an open area, usually with covered walkways around it. The Jesuits, a religious group, built this impressive structure in the middle of the 18th century. They built it around an even older building, the medieval hospital of Santa Llúcia (Saint Lucy).
