How It All Began
The museum first opened its doors to the public in 1905. Back then, it was called the Museu Biblioteca de Olot, which means the Olot Museum and Library. It started as a place where people could enjoy both books and art.
Growing and Changing
Over time, the museum added more and more to its collections. For example, in 1956, they added a collection of nativity scenes, which are special displays showing the birth of Jesus. Later, in 1966, the Blay Hall was added, and in 1977, the Josep Clarà Hall opened. These new spaces allowed the museum to show even more amazing art and historical items.
Becoming the Regional Museum
In 1982, something big happened. The city government of Olot and the Generalitat of Catalonia (the government of Catalonia) made an agreement. Because of this, the museum was officially re-established as the Museu Comarcal de la Garrotxa. This new name highlights its role as the main museum for the entire Garrotxa region.
