How MOCAD Started
The museum was founded by Julia Reyes Taubman. She had a vision to create a special place for contemporary art in Detroit. MOCAD officially opened its doors in 2006.
Exciting Art Exhibitions
MOCAD has hosted many interesting art shows since it opened. Its very first exhibition was called Meditations in an Emergency. It started on October 28, 2006, and featured works by artists like Tabaimo and Kara Walker.
