The Museum of Fine Arts of Asturias is an exciting place to visit in Oviedo, Asturias, Spain. It's a special museum where you can explore many amazing artworks! In Spanish, it's called Museo de Bellas Artes de Asturias.

This museum is actually made up of three different buildings. These include the historic Palacio de Velarde, the House of Oviedo-Portal, and the House of Solís-Carbajal.

The idea for the museum started a long time ago, on June 13, 1844. It officially opened its doors on May 19, 1980. The art collection originally came from the old province of Oviedo. Today, the museum gets its support from the Culture Department of Asturias and the City of Oviedo.

A project to make the museum bigger was underway in 2011. This expansion was designed by the museum's architect, Francisco Beloqui Mangado.

Discovering the Art Collection

The museum has a huge collection of fine arts, with about 10,000 different items! At any one time, you can see between 350 and 400 of these artworks on display.

Paintings and Artists

You'll find many paintings by Spanish artists here. The museum especially highlights artists from the Asturias region. There are also beautiful works by artists from other countries. These include Italian painters, like Umberto Pettinicchio, and Flemish painters.

Other Art Forms

Besides paintings, the museum's permanent collection also features other cool art forms. You can see interesting sculptures. There are also photographs, delicate glass objects, and unique earthenware pieces.
