Mussasa facts for kids
Mussasa was a powerful queen and a brave warrior from the 1600s. She belonged to a group of people called the Jaga. Her kingdom was located near the Cunene River in what is now the country of Angola.
A Fearless Queen and Leader
Mussasa was married to Donji, who was the governor of a place called Matamba. She was known for being a very strong and skilled warrior. People said she was as good as, or even better than, the men of her time in battle.
Expanding Her Kingdom
After King Zimbo passed away, Mussasa's husband, Donji, started to take control of nearby lands. When Donji later died, Mussasa bravely took over. She continued to expand their kingdom, making it much larger. She led her soldiers into battles herself, showing great courage and leadership.
Training a Successor
Mussasa also made sure her daughter, Tembandumba, learned how to be a soldier. She took Tembandumba with her to fight in battles. Tembandumba grew up to be just as fierce and skilled as her mother. When Mussasa's time as queen ended, Tembandumba took her place and became the next powerful queen.
