Mustapha Adib Abdul Wahed (Arabic: مصطفى عبد الواحد أديب) was born on August 30, 1972. He is a Lebanese diplomat, politician, and academic. Since July 11, 2013, he has served as Lebanon's Ambassador to Germany. In 2020, he was chosen to be the prime minister-designate. However, he stepped down because he could not form a government. He is well-known for his studies and knowledge in areas like human and state security. He also has expertise in election laws and how parliaments oversee security.

About Mustapha Adib
Mustapha Adib Abdul Wahed was born in the northern city of Tripoli, Lebanon. He is a Sunni Muslim.
His Education and Early Career
Mustapha Adib earned a PhD degree in law and political science. He studied at the University of Montpellier in France. He achieved very high grades.
In 2000, he began teaching at Beirut War College. He also taught at other universities in Lebanon and France. His subjects included public international law, Constitutional law, International relations, and Geopolitics. He also became a full-time professor at the Lebanese University.
His Work in Strategic Studies
In 2004, Mustapha Adib became the President of the Centre d'études stratégiques pour le moyen-orient (CESMO). This center focuses on strategic studies for the Middle East. Since then, he has worked on many studies with the United Nations. He also worked with the Generic Center for Civilian Control of Armed Forces.
His Role in Government
Mustapha Adib worked closely with former Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati. He was Mikati's adviser from 2000 to 2004. He also helped change Lebanon's election laws in 2005 and 2006. In 2011, Prime Minister Najib Mikati appointed him as his chief of staff. On July 18, 2013, he became Lebanon's ambassador to Germany.
On September 1, 2024, he was appointed as the Permanent Delegate for Lebanon to UNESCO in Paris. On January 28, 2025, he was nominated for a position at the International Court of Justice.
Becoming Prime Minister-Designate
On August 30, 2020, Mustapha Adib received support from major political groups. These included the Future Movement of Lebanon and several former Lebanese prime ministers. They wanted him to become the new Prime Minister. He was nominated while he was still the ambassador to Germany. He was chosen to replace Hassan Diab, who resigned on August 10, 2020. This resignation followed the 2020 Beirut explosion, which caused much sadness and anger.
Mustapha Adib was reported to have support from parties like the Free Patriotic Movement. Former Prime Minister Najib Mikati was the first to nominate him. He was the only candidate nominated on August 30, 2020. His nomination was also approved by French President Emmanuel Macron. President Macron was visiting Lebanon to discuss peace and political changes.
On August 31, 2020, Mustapha Adib was officially appointed as the new designated Prime Minister. This happened just before President Macron's visit. He received support from 90 out of 120 Members of Parliament. They supported him to form a new government.
However, about a month later, on September 26, 2020, he stepped down. He was unable to form a government.
