W.K. Mutale Nalumango was born on January 1, 1955, in Kaputa, Zambia. She is a Zambian educator and a very important politician. She currently serves as the 14th Vice President of Zambia. She was chosen for this role in August 2021. Mutale Nalumango is only the second woman to hold this high position in Zambia's history.

Mutale Nalumango's Journey
Early Life and Teaching Career
Mutale Nalumango started her career as a teacher. She worked hard in schools and later became a leader for teachers. She was the vice-president of the Secondary Schools’ Teachers Union of Zambia. This experience helped her understand people's needs.
Entering Politics
In 2001, Mutale Nalumango decided to enter politics. She was elected as a member of parliament for the Kaputa area. She represented the Movement for Multi-Party Democracy party at that time.
Serving as a Minister
During the time Levy Mwanawasa was President, Mutale Nalumango held several important jobs. She served as the Minister of Labour and Social Security. She also became the Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services. In this role, she helped manage how information was shared with the public.
Becoming Deputy Speaker
After being re-elected to parliament in 2006, Mutale Nalumango took on an even bigger role. She became the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia. She was the first woman ever to hold this position. This was a big step for women in Zambian politics.
Joining a New Party
In 2011, Mutale Nalumango lost her parliamentary seat. After this, she decided to join a different political party. She became a member of the United Party for National Development (UPND) in 2013. She quickly rose through the ranks in her new party. She was appointed the party’s national chairwoman. She held this position until February 2021.
Becoming Vice President
In February 2021, Mutale Nalumango became the vice president of the UPND party. Later that year, in the 2021 Zambian general election, the UPND won the presidential election. This meant that Mutale Nalumango became the Vice President of Zambia. She is the second woman to hold this powerful position, following Inonge Wina.
