Muthoni wa Gichuru facts for kids
Alice Muthoni Gichuru, also known as Muthoni wa Gichuru, is a talented writer from Kenya. She writes exciting stories for children and young adults, and also creates short stories for everyone to enjoy.
About Muthoni wa Gichuru
Muthoni wa Gichuru grew up in a small village called Matanya, near Nanyuki in Kenya. When she was a child, her father often read to her from a Gikuyu book called Kamina na Kamina. This might have been where her love for stories began!
She went to Moi University and earned a degree in information sciences. This means she learned a lot about how information is collected and used.
How She Started Writing
In 2002, Muthoni's husband, Joseph Kamau, encouraged her to start writing her own stories. Her very first book, Breaking the Silence, came out in 2009. It was so good that it was a runner-up for the 2011 Jomo Kenyatta Prize for Literature. This is a big award for books in Kenya, especially for young people's stories.
Later, in 2019, her book The Carving won the 2018 CODE Burt Prize for African Young Adult Literature in Kenya. This shows how much her stories are loved and recognized!
