My Dog Is Lost is a heartwarming picture book from 1960. It was written and illustrated by the famous American author Ezra Jack Keats. This book was actually Keats' first time writing a children's story. He went on to create or draw pictures for more than 85 books for young readers!

The Story of Juanito and Pepito

This book tells the story of a boy named Juanito. He and his family have just moved to New York City from Puerto Rico. Juanito feels very sad because he only speaks Spanish. He has no one to talk with in his new city.

Searching for a Lost Friend

To make things worse, Juanito's dog, Pepito, goes missing! Juanito knows his new neighbors won't understand him if he says "Mi perro se ha perdido" (which means "My dog is lost"). So, he bravely goes to a bank. There, he asks a kind man to help him write a sign in English.

An Adventure Across New York

With his new sign, Juanito begins his search. Soon, different children from all over New York City join him. They help him look for Pepito in many famous neighborhoods. Their adventure takes them through busy Chinatown and charming Little Italy. They also search along fancy Park Avenue and vibrant Harlem. Will Juanito and his new friends find Pepito? You'll have to read the book to find out!
