About N. D. Wilson
Nathan David Wilson was born in 1978. His father is Douglas Wilson, a minister, and his mother is Nancy Wilson, also an author. He was named after two important figures from the Bible, Nathan and David. He went to Logos School for his education.
When he was in sixth grade, Nathan decided he wanted to be a writer. However, he didn't start writing long stories until later. He graduated from New Saint Andrews College in 1999. He also studied theology and earned a master's degree in liberal arts in 2001.
How Wilson Started Writing Books
During his studies, Wilson began to seriously work on writing fantasy books for children. His first attempt at a novel was called "The Seventh Sneeze," but he later joked that the title was the best part! He stopped working on that book and started a new one. This new project eventually became his popular 100 Cupboards series.
Wilson started teaching at New Saint Andrews College in 2001. By 2005, he became a Fellow of Literature at the college. He also worked as a managing editor for Credenda/Agenda magazine. Today, he is a teacher at Christ Church in Moscow, Idaho.
Wilson is married to Heather, and they have five children together. In 2017, he had surgery for a health issue.
In October 2020, Wilson's church, Christ Church, organized protests about a mask rule during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Themes in Wilson's Fiction
Wilson often uses ideas from classic literature in his stories. For example, his book Leepike Ridge takes themes from famous tales like The Odyssey, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, and King Solomon's Mines.
The 100 Cupboards series was inspired by the King Arthur stories and old fairy tales. The Ashtown Burials series includes many characters from history and myths, like Gilgamesh. The first book in that series, The Dragon's Tooth, uses ideas from Treasure Island. Also, Boys of Blur is set in Florida but mirrors the ancient story of Beowulf.
A common theme in Wilson's books is the idea of fatherhood. His stories often explore how characters deal with not having a father figure and how they find new mentors.
