Joel Courtney is an American actor born on January 31, 1996. He is well-known for his roles in the movie Super 8 and as Lee Flynn in the popular Netflix The Kissing Booth film series.
Early Life
Joel Courtney was born in Monterey, California. He grew up in Moscow, Idaho, and went to Logos School. When he was 14, Joel visited Los Angeles during his summer break. He hoped to get a small acting job, maybe in a commercial, to earn some money.
Acting Career
Joel's acting journey began when a casting director suggested he try out for a movie called Super 8. After many auditions, he got the main role of Joe Lamb. This movie was a big success! For his work in Super 8, Joel won an award for Best Performance by a Younger Actor at the Saturn Awards in 2012.
After Super 8, Joel continued acting in different films. In 2011, he filmed Tom Sawyer & Huckleberry Finn in Bulgaria, where he played the famous character Tom Sawyer.
He also appeared in a supernatural thriller called Don't Let Me Go and a TV movie called Rogue. In 2012, he was cast in the Stephen King movie Mercy.
Joel also acted in the TV show The Messengers and had a guest role in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as Nathaniel Malick.
A big part of Joel's career has been the The Kissing Booth movies on Netflix. He plays Lee Flynn, the best friend of the main character. He starred in the first movie in 2018, and then came back for The Kissing Booth 2 in 2020 and The Kissing Booth 3 in 2021. These movies became very popular with young audiences.
More recently, Joel was in the movie Jesus Revolution, which came out in 2023.
Personal Life
Joel Courtney got engaged to his longtime girlfriend, Mia Scholink, on Valentine's Day in 2020. They got married later that year on September 27, 2020.
Joel enjoys reading! His favorite book series are 100 Cupboards and Ashtown Burials. Both series were written by N. D. Wilson, who also directed a movie Joel starred in called The River Thief.
