Joel Courtney (born January 31, 1996) is an American actor. He is well-known for his role in the 2011 movie Super 8. He also starred as Lee Flynn in the popular Netflix The Kissing Booth movie series.

Early Life and Starting Out
Joel Courtney was born in Monterey, California, on January 31, 1996. He grew up in Moscow, Idaho. He went to a school there called Logos School. When he was still living in Idaho, Joel went on a trip to Los Angeles in 2010. He hoped to get a part in a commercial and earn some money.
Joel's Acting Journey
A casting director named Patti Kalles suggested Joel try out for a movie called Super 8. After many auditions, Joel got the main role of Joe Lamb in the film. This movie came out in 2011. Joel did a great job, and he won an award for Best Performance by a Younger Actor at the 2012 Saturn Awards.
In August 2011, Joel filmed another movie called Tom Sawyer & Huckleberry Finn. He played the famous character Tom Sawyer in this film.
In 2012, Joel worked on a movie called Don't Let Me Go. He played a teenager who goes on a camping trip with his dad. That same year, he was in a TV movie called Rogue.
Later, in November 2012, Joel was chosen for a movie based on a Stephen King story called Mercy. This movie was released in 2014.
In 2013, Joel acted in two more independent films: Dear Eleanor and Sins of our Youth.
Joel was also part of the main cast in a TV show called The Messengers. This show aired in 2014 and 2015. In 2016, he had a guest role in an episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D..
Joel played the main character in an independent movie called The River Thief in 2016. In 2018, he became very well-known for starring in the Netflix movie The Kissing Booth. He played the character Lee Flynn. He continued this role in the sequels, The Kissing Booth 2 (2020) and The Kissing Booth 3 (2021).
In 2020, Joel was cast in the movie Jesus Revolution, which was released in 2023.
Joel's Personal Life
On February 14, 2020, Joel asked his longtime girlfriend, Mia Scholink, to marry him. They got married on September 27, 2020.
Joel enjoys reading. His favorite book series are 100 Cupboards and Ashtown Burials. Both of these series were written by N. D. Wilson, who also directed The River Thief, a movie Joel starred in.
