Nabiti facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The Nabiti are a Native American tribe. They originally lived in eastern Texas. Their name, Nabiti, means "Cedar Place" in the Caddo language.

History of the Nabiti Tribe

The Nabiti tribe was part of a larger group called the Hasinai. The Hasinai were a branch of the powerful Caddo Confederacy. This was a big alliance of Native American tribes.

Even though they were part of the Caddo Confederacy, sometimes the Nabiti were seen as enemies by other Caddo groups like the Hasinai. This shows how alliances between tribes could change over time.

The Nabiti built their homes in settled villages. These villages were located along the Angelina River in eastern Texas.

A Spanish priest named Fray Casañas wrote about the Nabiti in 1691. He said they were one of nine tribes in the Hasinai group. Their land was located between two other tribes, the Cacachau and the Nasoni.

Today, many Nabiti people are part of the Caddo Nation. This nation is based in Binger, Oklahoma.
