Nadia Zyncenko's Early Life
Nadia Zyncenko was born in Italy in 1948. Her parents were Vladímir Zyncenko and María Petrenko. They were both from Ukraine. Her father was a soldier in the Red Army during World War II.
After the war, her parents met in Rome. They moved to a village called Bagnoli, near Naples, where Nadia was born.
A few days after I was born, my parents put me on a transatlantic liner, fleeing from hunger, and we arrived in Argentina. Since at home I spoke in Ukrainian and in school in Spanish, I could never adapt my way of speaking to Argentina.
Her family moved to Argentina when she was just a baby. They settled in a rural area near Pilar, Buenos Aires. Nadia grew up there with her two younger brothers, Pablo and Pedro.
How Her Father Inspired Her
Nadia's father loved watching the sky. During the war, he watched for planes and bombs. When he came to Argentina, he kept watching the sky. But this time, he was trying to guess the weather.
During the eight years he was in combat, my dad spent his time looking at the sky, where planes flew and bombs fell. When he came to Argentina he continued doing the same, but not waiting for bombs but trying to guess how the weather would be. That's how he, an immigrant in the middle of the countryside, ended up telling the neighboring dairy farmers how the weather was going to be.
He would tell the local farmers what the weather would be like. This early interest in weather from her father likely influenced Nadia's future career.
Nadia Zyncenko's Career in Meteorology
Nadia studied at the University of Buenos Aires. She joined the Faculty of Exact and Natural Sciences. There, she received a scholarship from the National Meteorological Service. This is a government agency that studies the weather.
Becoming a TV Weather Presenter
In 1980, Nadia started working as a substitute weather presenter. She appeared on Televisión Pública Argentina (Canal 7), which is a state television channel. Later, she got a full-time job at another channel, Canal 11 (now called Telefe).
By 1992, she returned to the state channel permanently. She became known as "the weather woman." She presented the weather reports several times a day. At the same time, she also worked for the National Meteorological Service until 2010. One of her roles was "chief of aeronautical meteorology" at Jorge Newbery airport.
Her Own TV Show and Awards
On June 4, 2012, Nadia started her own TV show. It was called Nadia 6:30 and aired on Televisión Pública Argentina. The show was half an hour long.
In 2014, Nadia received a special award. She was honored at the Martín Fierro Awards for her long and successful career.
In 2018, Nadia left Televisión Pública. This happened because she had reached the usual retirement age. However, the government soon after changed the retirement age.
