Centropyge nahackyi, also known as Nahacky's angelfish, is a small, colorful fish. It belongs to a group called pygmy angelfish. You can find this beautiful fish living deep in the ocean around Johnston Island and the Hawaiian Islands. People really like Nahacky's angelfish because of its bright and amazing colors, which makes them quite popular in the aquarium hobby.

What Does Nahacky's Angelfish Look Like?

Nahacky's angelfish is known for its amazing colors! It has a dark body with bright blue and brown on the back of its tail. You might also spot black and blue stripes near its head, a yellow chest area, and a yellow tail base.

This fish has a small mouth right at the front of its head. Its teeth are thin and rounded, packed closely together. This special design helps the fish move its jaw easily. Interestingly, it doesn't have any teeth on the roof of its mouth, and its tongue is short and round.

As Nahacky's angelfish grows, the area above its eyes becomes a bit curved inwards. Its unique color patterns and gentle slopes on its body help it stand out from other similar fish species.

Where Does Nahacky's Angelfish Live?

Nahacky's angelfish originally comes from Johnston Atoll, a small group of islands in the Pacific Ocean. Scientists also found one of these fish near the Hawaiian Islands. This might have been a "waif," meaning a single fish that somehow traveled far from its usual home.

These angelfish mostly live in deep reefs. These reefs are made of old, worn-down limestone. You can find Nahacky's angelfish swimming at depths of about 41 to 70 meters (which is like diving down 135 to 230 feet!). In these deep waters, you might find about 0.12 Nahacky's angelfish in every square meter.

Why Are They Special to People?

Because of their super bright and vibrant colors, Nahacky's angelfish are very popular in the aquarium trade. People who collect exotic fish are willing to pay a lot of money for them. Sometimes, one of these beautiful fish can sell for thousands of U.S. dollars!
