Naim Mohammad Qassem (Arabic: نعيم قاسم, romanized: Naeim Qasim) was born in February 1953. He is a Lebanese religious leader and politician. Since October 29, 2024, he has been the fourth leader of Hezbollah.
Hezbollah is a political and military group in Lebanon. Naim Qassem helped start Hezbollah in 1982. Before becoming the main leader, he was the first deputy leader from 1991 to 2024.
Qassem was born in Kfar Kila, Lebanon. He earned a master's degree in chemistry from the Lebanese University in 1977. He worked as a chemistry teacher. Later, he joined the Amal Movement, another political group. He also studied religious teachings.
After the Iranian Revolution, he helped create Hezbollah. In 1991, he became the deputy leader under Abbas al-Musawi. He kept this role when Hassan Nasrallah became the leader. Qassem helped manage the group's election campaigns. He also played a big role in shaping Hezbollah's ideas.
In September 2024, the previous leader, Hassan Nasrallah, passed away. Naim Qassem then became the acting leader. A month later, in October, Qassem was chosen as the new leader. This happened after another possible successor, Hashem Saffiedine, also passed away.

Early Life and Education
Naim Qassem was born in February 1953 in Kfar Fila. His family came from this town. He grew up in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon.
He studied theology, which is the study of religion. His teacher was Mohammad Hussein Fadlallah. Qassem also went to the Lebanese University. He earned both a bachelor's and a master's degree in Chemistry. He finished his studies in 1977.
Political Career and Leadership
Qassem started his career as a chemistry teacher for a few years.
In the 1970s, he helped create the Lebanese Union of Muslim Students. He joined the Amal Movement, led by Musa al-Sadr. However, he left this group in 1979. From 1974 to 1988, Qassem led the Association for Islamic Religious Education. He also advised schools called al-Mustafa schools. Qassem was involved in setting up Hezbollah.
In 1991, he became the deputy leader of Hezbollah. Abbas al-Musawi chose him for this important role. He continued as deputy leader when Hassan Nasrallah took over in 1992.
Qassem has managed Hezbollah's political campaigns for elections since 1992. That was the first time Hezbollah took part in elections. For many years, Qassem was one of Hezbollah's main spokesmen.
Becoming Hezbollah's Secretary-General
On October 29, 2024, Naim Qassem was chosen as the new leader of Hezbollah. This happened after the previous leader, Hassan Nasrallah, passed away in September 2024. Another person who was expected to become leader, Hashem Safieddine, also passed away in October.
Books and Ideas
In 2002, Qassem wrote a book called Hizbullah: The Story from Within. This book has been updated several times. In 2011, he spoke at an event for his book. He talked about how Hezbollah would continue its work.
