Pomegranates and Myrrh
Her first major film was Pomegranates and Myrrh, released in 2009. This movie was very successful, winning 10 awards! It was shown in movie theaters and at over 80 film festivals internationally. When the film was first shown in Ramallah, it caused some discussion because of how it showed a character who was the wife of a person in prison. However, the film also won the Best Arab Film award at the Doha Tribeca Film Festival.
Naim and Wadee'a
In 1999, Najwa made a documentary film called Naim and Wadee’a. This film was special because it was based on her own family's history. It shared the stories of Na’im Azar and Wadee’a Aghabi, a couple who had to leave their home in Jaffa in 1948. This documentary won an award for Films of Conflict and Resolution at the 2000 Hamptons International Film Festival.
Eyes of a Thief
Another important film by Najwa Najjar is Eyes of a Thief, released in 2014. This movie was chosen to be the official Palestinian submission to the 87th Academy Awards. This means it was put forward to represent Palestine for one of the most famous film awards in the world!
