Marianne Elisabeth Grönvall, better known by her stage name Nanne Grönvall, is a famous Swedish singer and songwriter. She was born on May 18, 1962. Nanne is well-known for her catchy pop songs and for competing many times in Sweden's biggest music contest.

A Musical Journey

Nanne Grönvall has had a long and exciting career in music, both in bands and as a solo artist.

Early Career

Nanne's music career began in the 1980s with a group called Sound of Music. The band tried to represent Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest by competing in Melodifestivalen, which is Sweden's national selection contest. They competed in 1986 with the song "Eldorado" and in 1987 with "Alexandra," finishing in fourth place both times.

Even when she wasn't performing, Nanne was busy writing songs for other artists in Melodifestivalen. In 1995, a song she co-wrote, "Det vackraste" ("The Most Beautiful Thing"), finished in second place.

Success with One More Time

From 1991 to 1997, Nanne was part of the group One More Time. The band also included her husband, Peter Grönvall, and singer Maria Rådsten.

In 1996, they won Melodifestivalen with their song "Den vilda" ("The Wild One"). This meant they got to represent Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest 1996. They did very well, finishing in third place out of 23 countries!

Going Solo

After One More Time's last album in 1997, Nanne started her solo career. She returned to Melodifestivalen in 1998 with the song "Avundsjuk" ("Envious"). For her performance, she wore a fun purple wig and pointy ears.

She kept competing over the years. In 2005, her song "Håll om mig" ("Embrace Me") became a huge fan favorite. It won the public vote by a large amount and finished second overall in the competition. The song became a number-one hit in Sweden.

In 2006, Nanne had to cancel a tour because she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She successfully recovered a few months later. She returned to Melodifestivalen in 2007 with "Jag måste kyssa dig" ("I Must Kiss You"). She most recently competed in 2020 with the song "Carpool Karaoke."

Songwriting and Other Work

Nanne is a talented songwriter and has written many hit songs for herself and other artists.

Famous Songs

One of her group's songs, "Highland", was a hit across Europe in the 1990s. The song "Det vackraste", which she co-wrote, won a Swedish Grammy for "Song of the Year."

She has also written theme songs for movies based on the books by the famous Swedish author Astrid Lindgren. In 2019, she co-wrote the song "I Do" for the band Arvingarna, which became a big hit.

Stage and Screen

Besides singing, Nanne is also an actress. She has starred in many famous musicals, including playing Miss Hannigan in Annie and the Evil Queen in Snow White. She has also been the voice for characters in animated movies and TV shows.

Nanne has hosted TV and radio shows, too. She once had her own radio show and even got to interview the rock legend Ozzy Osbourne.
