Playing Career: A Defender's Journey
Naohiko Minobe was born in Moriyama, Shiga on July 12, 1965. After finishing high school, he joined a football club called Matsushita Electric in 1984. This club later became known as Gamba Osaka.
Early Days at Gamba Osaka
Minobe played many games for Gamba Osaka, mostly as a right back. In 1990, his team, Matsushita Electric, won the Emperor's Cup. This was a very important win, as it was the first major title for the club.
Moving to Kyoto Sanga
In 1994, Minobe moved to Kyoto Sanga FC, which was then called Kyoto Purple Sanga. At that time, they played in the Japan Football League. He became the team captain in 1994 and was a regular player. In 1995, he played less often, but his team finished second. This great result meant they were promoted to the J1 League, which is Japan's top football league. Minobe retired at the end of the 1995 season. He did not get to play in the J1 League with Kyoto Sanga.
Managerial Career: Leading Teams to Success
After he stopped playing, Minobe became a coach for Kyoto Sanga FC in 1996. He mostly coached the youth teams until 2003.
First Manager Role at Kyoto Sanga
In 2004, he became a coach for the main team. In October 2006, the manager of Kyoto Sanga was replaced, and Minobe took over. However, the team's results were not good, and they moved down to the J2 League. He started the 2007 season as manager but was replaced in October of that year.
Success with Tokushima Vortis
In 2008, Minobe became the manager for Tokushima Vortis, a team in the J2 League. In 2008, the team finished last. But after that, the team got better each season. By 2011, they finished in 4th place, which was a big improvement. Minobe left the team at the end of the 2011 season.
Leading AC Nagano Parceiro
In 2013, Minobe joined AC Nagano Parceiro, a team in the Japan Football League. He led them to win the league that year. This win meant the club was promoted to the new J3 League for the 2014 season. In 2014, his team finished 2nd. However, they lost the play-off games and did not move up to J2. In August 2015, Minobe left the club because of health issues, even though the team was doing well in 3rd place.
Current Role at Asuka FC
On January 12, 2021, Naohiko Minobe was announced as the manager of Asuka FC. This team plays in the Kansai Soccer League. On November 24, 2024, Minobe helped Asuka FC get promoted to the Japan Football League for the first time in their history.
