Naoki Yamada is a Japanese footballer born on July 4, 1990. He plays as an attacking midfielder for FC Gifu.

Early Life and Youth Football

Naoki Yamada's father was also a football player. He played for Mazda SC and the Japan Under-20 national team. Naoki followed in his father's footsteps, joining the Urawa Red Diamonds youth team in 2003 and playing there until 2008.

Professional Club Career

Playing for Urawa Red Diamonds

Yamada started his professional career with Urawa Red Diamonds in 2008. He played for the senior team until 2019. During his time there, his team achieved some great results. They finished second in the J.League Cup in 2011 and 2013. They also came in second in the J1 League in 2014. A big win for Yamada and the team was when they won the Emperor's Cup in 2018.

Time with Shonan Bellmare

Yamada also spent time playing for Shonan Bellmare. He first joined them on loan from 2015 to 2017. He went back on loan in 2019 before officially joining the club in 2020. He played for Shonan Bellmare until 2024.

Joining FC Gifu

In 2025, Naoki Yamada moved to FC Gifu, where he continues to play football.

National Team Career

Playing for Japan's Youth Teams

In August 2007, Yamada was chosen to play for the Japan Under-17 national team. He played in the 2007 FIFA U-17 World Cup. He wore the number 10 jersey and played every minute of all three matches for Japan in that tournament. He also played for the Japan Under-20 and Under-23 teams.

Playing for Japan's Senior Team

Yamada made his first appearance for the senior national team on May 27, 2009. This was in a friendly match against Chile in Osaka. In that game, he helped set up a goal for his teammate Keisuke Honda. He played two matches for the senior national team.

Dealing with Injuries

Throughout his career, Naoki Yamada has faced several injuries that kept him from playing.

In January 2010, during a match against Yemen, Yamada had to leave the game early due to a leg injury. This injury meant he couldn't play for about three months.

Later, in March 2012, Yamada got another serious injury while playing for Urawa Reds. This injury kept him off the field for six months. Sadly, this also meant he missed the chance to play for Japan in the 2012 Summer Olympics.
